The proposed £100m extension to the Merry Hill shopping centre, Dudley, West Midlands, will test government policy. Evidence for and against the scheme is under careful consideration. The case is regarded by many in the property industry as a test of the government’s willingness to block new development in the interests of protecting established town centres.
