AVX of the USA is to upgrade its Coleraine factory in Northern Ireland over the next three years, at a cost of £45.7m. AVX makes ceramic capacitors for the consumer electronics, motor and telecommunications industries. It plans to double production within five years. The factory will receive an Industrial Development Board (IDB) grant of £8m towards the cost.
The IDB’s annual report published today says 1995 was a record year with 4,869 jobs promised from 35 inward investment projects compared with 3,141 jobs the previous year.
