Judging panel chooses new heart for Manchester today

Today a panel of judges will select a master-plan for Manchester city centre from a short-list of five architects.

The competition results coincide with the reopening of Marks & Spencer in the city, after the store’s flagship outlet was destroyed by the IRA bomb in the summer.

The retailer is seen as key to the city’s redevelopment.
