London Auction partners split after five years

Nelson Bakewell, which for the last five years has run the London Auction with Hartnell Taylor Cook, is launching its own saleroom service.

From the start of next year Nelson Bakewell will offer an auction facility to in-house clients including AMP, Prudential, Svenska Handelsbank and the Law Society.

The company plans to hold up to five sales a year, each of around 40 lots. The first auction is scheduled for February 13. No auctioneer has yet been appointed, although there are understood to be six candidates for the job.

Hartnell Taylor Cook will continue to run both The London Auction and, in the West Country, the Bristol Auction. Its next sale, in February, will include over 100 lots offered on behalf of British Rail Property Board.
