Three top retailers sign up for Mill Gate retail centre, Bury, Greater Manchester

WH Smith, Superdrug and Next are the first retailers to prelet space in MEPC’s new Mill Gate Shopping Centre in Bury to the north of Manchester.

The three retailers have taken four of the 18 available units.

  • WH Smith has taken 525 sq m (5,500 sq ft) over two floors at a fixed rent of £110,000 pa for 15 years .
  • Superdrug has combined two units to create 565 sq m (5,900 sq ft) on the ground floor and 400 sq m (4,150 sq ft) on first floor level. It is paying a rent of £181,000 pa for a 15 year lease.
  • Next has taken a 480 sq m (5,000 sq ft) store over two levels at a starting rent of £80,000 pa on a 15-year lease.

Last month River Island re-opened its store in the centre after surrendering its lease to MEPC for the refurbishment. The clothes retailer has negotiated a new 15 year lease on extended premises, now totalling 240 sq m (2,500 sq ft) on the first floor and 300 sq m (3,150 sq ft) on the ground floor. The starting rent is £90,000 pa.

There are still fourteen units available in the centre, which is anchored by a 2,500 sq m (26,500 sq ft BHS store). There is also parking for 600 cars. The second phase of the development will be open in Autumn next year.
