It now seems unlikely that Hitachi will set up an R&D centre on Hazels Business Park, Liverpool Road, Knowsley, Merseyside.
Officially, Hitachi claims only to have postponed its decision on the new facility, although Knowsley Council and Inward believe the company has ruled out the Knowsley site. According to Hitachi Europe, the eventual decision rests with the Japanese parent company.
The news came as a disappointment to investment agency Inward, which had been in detailed talks with the electronics giant.
