Haulage firm Eddie Stobart is to become the first major occupier at Abbcott Estates’ Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT) in Northamptonshire.
The Carlisle-based firm has submitted a detailed planning application to develop a £25m, 46,450 sq m (500,000 sq ft) distribution centre on a 10.522 sq m (26 acre) freehold site.
Commercial director Barrie Thomas said the new centre – due to open in September – would be a launch pad into Europe and would enable the firm to integrate its road and rail operations more closely. The firm already operates a transport depot at DIRFT.
Rail services from the £75m railport and logistics centre – backed by Hermes Property Asset Management – will begin in early summer. The scheme has planning consent for 371,600 sq m (4m sq ft) of distribution and manufacturing floorspace.
The joint letting agents are Jones Lang Wootton, Hawkins & Harrison and Baker Rose.
