Exclusive MEPC wins planning consent for £55m Guildford shopping centre

MEPC’s plans to build a £55m shopping centre in Guildford have finally been given the go-ahead by the local council.

The 18,580 sq m (200,000 sq ft) building, called St Dominic Square, will link into the Friary Centre, the next-door 3,935 sq m (150,000 sq ft) shopping mall also owned by MEPC.

MEPC’s latest venture will include a 9,290 sq m (100,000 sq ft) department store, 35 shops and a range of restaurants and cafes. It will have links into the Friary Centre on two levels. A start date has not been finalised although the scheme should be ready for trading by 2000. The developer first submitted a detailed planning application in December 1995.

The Friary Centre is also set to get a major facelift, to coincide with the opening of its neighbour.

Wadham & Isherwood and Dalgleish & Co are the joint letting agents on St Dominic Square.
