BATC pledges to continue against state aid for £157m Belfast Hualon plant

The British Apparel and Textiles Confederation (BATC) pledged to continue their legal battle over state aid for Hualon Corporation’s £157m investment project in Northern Ireland.

BATC argues that the Hualon plant, to be built in the north of Belfast, would unfairly use the state aid to increase production capacity in an industry undergoing a dramatic downsizing process.

It is appealing an earlier ruling in the European Court which argued that Commission officials had not broken any rules when they sanctioned the UK government’s £61m subsidy package for the plant.
