Marks & Spencer has submitted a planning application for a £14m 3,252 sq m (35,000 sq ft) extension on its main city centre store in Nottingham.
Work should begin on the Albert Street store in July. Alex Matthews, M&S store manager, told EGi. “This is very much a commitment to Nottingham and we are committed to city centre development as part of our nationwide expansion plans,” he added.
The extension will give M&S some 8,361 sq m (90,000 sq ft) of sales floor to trade off by linking the old Post Office building in Low Pavement to the back of the current store.
Nottingham City Council is expected to give the all-clear to the refurbishment in March or April.
M&S also has a satellite store – selling menswear – at Lister Gate, Nottingham, which will be retained.
