Trafford Council has beaten off competition from the Wirral to build a £30m Imperial War Museum of the North.
Peel Holdings’ Manchester Ship Canal Company has agreed to sell the site, known as Southbank, on Trafford Wharf Road, Wharfside, to the Trustees of Imperial War Museum. The museum will be built next to Quay West building and the Lowry Centre.
The Trustees have indicated that should negotiations for the sale of the site fall through, the Museum would then most likely go to the Wirral.
