Arcadian International’s Malmaison hotel chain is embarking on an aggressive expansion policy with plans for hotels in Birmingham, Dublin, London and Paris.
Paris is the company’s immediate priority in continental Europe, but according to Arcadian’s John Cameron, the company will also be looking at sites in Brussels, Milan and Barcelona.
In the UK, Arcadian has just bought the freehold of King House in Leeds for about £3m, for conversion into a 90-bed hotel. The offices were formerly the headquarters of First Bus subsidiary Yorkshire Rider.
The 3,716 sq m (40,000 sq ft) listed building is on the corner of Swinegate and Sovereign Street. Aracdian has secured full planning consent for the conversion and will start work in the second half of 1997.
Weatherall Green & Smith acted for Yorkshire Rider.
