Westbury has marked the start of a 12-month £26m residential land acquisition programme across the East Midlands with the joint purchase of a site in Huntingdon, on the eastern boundary of its search area.
In partnership with Twigden Homes, Westbury has purchased 8.5ha (21 acres) of residential land from Cambridgeshire County Council at Huntingdon, adjacent to Frogmore Estates’ Hinchingbrook Business Park.
Swallow Hotels will open a 150 bedroom hotel at Hinchingbrook Business Park in Spring 1998. Matthews, who is advising Frogmore, disclosed that a planning application was submitted last month to Huntingdon District Council for 3,716 sq m (40,000 sq ft) of offices and an R & D unit for an unnamed company relocating from Cambridge.
A second phase of 9.3 ha (23 acres) of residential land will be sold by the county council in four years time.
The site attracted 11 offers, says Alan Matthews of Barker Storey Matthews, the county council’s advisers. No sale price has been disclosed, but local press speculation suggested a figure in excess of £3m.
