Britain’s leading coal producer, RJB Mining is threatening to close up to four of its 19 pits if power generators cut their purchases significantly when existing contracts run out next March.
The most vulnerable pits are Prince of Wales, near Pontefract, Yorkshire; Welbeck in Nottinghamshire and Maltby in Yorkshire.
