Royal Mail unveils plans for 215,000 sq ft Warrington processing centre

The Royal Mail will develop a 20,000 sq m (215,285 sq ft) automated processing centre in Warrington, Cheshire, as part of a £64m north west modernisation programme.

The company wants to find a 5ha (12.35 acre) site by the end of the year and complete the centre, which will supercede Crewe’s processing plant, by 2000.

As a result of the plans – brought in to cope with the anticapated doubling of mail volumes in the next ten years – the Royal Mail’s Wingates Industrial Estate site in Westthoughton near Bolton will close.
