BAA McArthur Glen has submitted a revised planning application for a retail outlet centre in York. The proposals involve rejigging an existing detailed consent for a 36,231 sq m (390,000 sq ft) out of town shopping mall.
Caddick Developments originally obtained detailed consent for the mall in the grounds of the former Naburn Hospital, at Fulford, from the former Selby Council in 1995. They subsequently sold on the proposed scheme to BMG.
The revised plan reduces the scheme’s height, the overall building area by 2,322.5 sq m (25,000 sq ft) and the lettable floor area by about 2,787 sq m (30,000 sq ft) to 26,012 sq m (280,000 sq ft). There will be more landscaping, 50 coach parking spaces and a park for 600 cycles.
BMG’s Adrian Wright was unavailable for comment, but he is understood to have told a public meeting in York on Thursday 26 June that the retail outlet would open in autumn 1998 with or without the changes. He said 30% of the space had already been let.
Responsibility for the planning decision now rests with the new unitary York City Council who will consider the revised planning application next month.
Jones Lang Wootton is letting agent on the scheme.
