The Welsh Office has started a search for an office building in Cardiff to house the new Welsh regional assembly.
According to local agency sources, Welsh Office representatives have looked at “every large office building in Cardiff”. The requirement is for a 5,574 sq m (60,000 sq ft) building, incorporating a 929 sq m (10,000 sq ft) room to house the assembly hall.
Local politicians had lobbied for the former Mid-Glamorgan County Hall in Cathays Park to be retained for the assembly. However, the 6,732 sq m (72,466 sq ft) building was sold to the University of Wales before the general election.
No agent has been appointed to conduct the search.
