Ladbroke gets casino licence for St Giles Hotel

Ladbroke has secured a casino licence from the Gaming Board for London’s St Giles Hotel.

The Malaysian owners of the St Giles, at the junction of Great Russell Street and Tottenham Court Road have already granted Ladbroke a 25-year lease on the 929 sq m (10,000 sq ft) premises. Ladbroke will be spending about £2m to create a casino with 14 tables, six jackpot machines and a restaurant and bar.

Ladbroke is still seeking buyers for eight hotels worth more than £80m that do not fit in with the core Hilton brand. A Far Eastern investor is thought to be ready to pay more than £40m for the 402-bedroom Plaza on Hyde Park in London. Jarvis Hotels is believed to be looking at up to three of its provincial properties.
