Morrisons has confirmed that it has signed up AMC, the US cinema operator, to operate its £60m Broadway Plaza scheme. The development is expected to provide the largest multiplex in Birmingham city centre.
As tipped by EGi, AMC has agreed to operate a 24-screen cinema on a 2.10ha (5.2 acre) site formerly occupied by Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Morrison, together with joint venture partner Property Solutions, has submitted a detailed planning application for the 9,290 sq m (100,000 sq ft) and hopes to complete the development by November 1999.
John Gray, regional director of Morrison Developments, said: “We had interest from a number of operators but AMC provided the best bid.”
This is the second project that Morrison is undergoing with AMC, following the announcement that they are developing a similar scheme in Hounslow, West London.
