Proposals include a 27,870 sq m (300,000 sq ft) leisure centre, 23,225 sq m (250,000 sq ft) of offices and 400 homes. The 6ha (15 acre) site is on the north side of the harbour and completion is scheduled for 2001. English Partnerships is putting £20m towards infrastructure work.
The successful consortium beat off competition from Taylor Woodrow, Trevor Osborne Group, London and Metropolitan and Berkeley Group. The developers have entered negotiations with agents Drivers Jonas and Chesterton, acting for the site owners Bristol City Council, Lloyds TSB and BG Properties, formerly British Gas Property Division.
