ScS Upholstery, the Sunderland-based specialist furniture retailer, plans to open a further 16 to 20 stores on retail parks in the English Midlands.
The retailer currently operates from 12 stores – eight in the North East and four in the Midlands. The latest announcement forms part of ScS plans to expand throughout the UK, concentrating on one region at a time.
Wherever possible, all future stores will follow what the company is hailing as a ‘new generation’ of flagship designs based on what it describes as a “mezzanine floor layout”.
At the same time as unveiling its expansion plans, ScS announced its intention to float on the Stock Exchange. In the year ending September 1997, ScS made a profit of £3.155m on sales of £23.7m.
