Bass has bought the upmarket restaurant chain Browns for an undisclosed figure thought to have been around £35m.
Bass plans a rapid expansion of the chain, opening many new sites across the country. It is already negotiating site acquisitions in Bath and Edinburgh.
The acquisition is the first since Bass completed a huge disposal programme, including the recent sale of the Coral betting shop chain.
