Barwood Developments teams up with UBK for Leamington Spa scheme

Barwood Developments has formed a joint venture with the United Bank of Kuwait to redevelop the last site allocated for development in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.

The new company, Regent Estates, is drawing up plans to redevelop a 0.81ha (2 acre) site next to Leamington’s Parade shopping centre. The listed Regent Hotel, which was bought from Regent Properties (Leamington) for an undisclosed price, stands on the site.

The developer’s agent Bill Wearing at Oliver Liggins’confirmed the company will be talking to the local council and meeting local interest groups before it submits plans for the site. Consultation is likely to take up to three months. The hotel is staying open for business and will form the central focus of the redevelopment.

In the late 1980s, the council granted consent for 14,864 sq m (160,000 sq ft) shopping centre and 9,290 sq m (100,000 sq ft) of offices and leisure. The office component would have been headquarters-style accommmodation for the local authority. However, this requirement is no longer active.

Oliver Liggins also advised on the purchase.
