MFI are on receiving end of two damages claims following a fire at its Gloucester superstore.
A writ, the second this year, has just been issued against MFI Properties, MFI Furniture Group and MFI Furniture Centres by Anglia Regional Co-operative Society. It seeks damages arising from a fire in May 1996 at Gloucester Retail Park which started at the MFI store and spread to the Co-op’s premises.
This march another writ was issued against the same three companies by Carpetright, which claims that its showroom next door to the MFI premises was also badly.
Carpetright – in a longer and more detailed Statement of Claim – alleges that MFI didn’t do enough to keep out vandals who had a history of setting fire to pallets, wood and rubbish stored near its property.
The fire service is said to have been called out to 39 incidents, 23 of which were the result of rubbish being set alight and three of which related to the ignition of combustible material in skips.
