The Millennium Commission has completed nearly one-tenth of the projects it supports with money from the National Lottery, reports The Times. The commissioners have distributed £1,263m to 189 bidders.
But a survey by The Independent of 40 of the biggest millennium projects has revealed a £330m shortfall in funding. The three largest projects intended to celebrate the millennium account for £85m of the shortfall – the Millennium Dome at Greenwich, the Earth Centre in Doncaster and the Eden Project in Cornwall.
A full-page feature in The Times lists all the schemes, region by region.
