Frogmore, with joint-venture partner Phoenix Property & Finance, has submitted plans for the redevelopment of Walton-on-Thames town centre in Surrey.
The new scheme will be built on a 2.8ha (7 acre) site in the town centre and will provide 22,296 sq m (240,000 sq ft) of new office and shopping floorspace. Plans have been drawn up in consultation with Elmbridge borough council and include the redevelopment of the existing Walton Centre, Beales department store, Wellington House and the former Surrey Squash Club.
If planning consent is achieved, the scheme will feature: 15,328 sq m (165,000 sq ft) of retail anchored by a 5,574 sq m (60,000 sq ft) foodstore; more than 1,858 sq m (20,000 sq ft) of offices; a 1,114 sq m (12,000 sq ft) health & fitness centre; a library; and an 800-capacity multistorey car park.
Offices planned for the first floor of the scheme will be small suites aimed at local businesses, according to Frogmore spokesman.
The developers say that the proposals “maximise the visual prominence of the site” and enhance pedestrian access to existing retail areas.
