Ulster Unionists have failed to win support from its assembly members for a compromise on implementing the Northern Ireland peace agreement struck with the nationalist Social Democratic and Labour party (SDLP) on Wednesday.
Seamus Mallon, SDLP deputy leader and deputy first minister of Northern Ireland, has withdrawn his insistence on an all-island foreign investment body. But differences still exist over the setting up of north-south bodies.
The two parties have already agreed co-operation on five areas including transport and waterways.
