Two Daewoo electronics factories are under threat of closure, at Antrim and Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland.
A shake-out of Korea’s industrial conglomerates under an International Monetary Fund plan would swap Daewoos’ electronics operations with Samsung as the five main groups unbundle to focus on core activities.
This would leave Samsung to concentrate on electronics and Daewoo on cars.
There could be a knock-on effect with suppliers such as Daewha Metal
which provides parts to Daewoo if the plan goes ahead.
