PPG3 protection for greenfield sites alarms housebuilders

New rules to protect greenfield sties are expected to anger housebuilders when they are unveiled next month.

The PPG 3 guidance will require developers to prove there are no adequate town-centre sites available before getting permission to build in the countryside. Housebuilders fear this will lead to a shortage of new homes.

It will be followed after Easter by the publication of the government’s new national register of brownfield sites. There could also be possible tax changes to promote the recycling of derelict sites.
