Safeway lets Booker’s 330,000 sq ft Northampton shed

Safeway, Britain’s fourth largest supermarket group, has snapped up one of Booker’s huge distribution warehouses in Northampton, alleviating Booker from a £5m a year liability on the property.

The 30,657 sq m (330,000 sq ft) warehouse, which is less than a year old, costs £1.6m pa in rent alone.

Safeway’s new distribution centre can serve most of its 470 stores. It became surplus to Booker1s requirements when it sold its wholesale food business to Pamer & Harvey McLane last February.
