Chiltern Investment Properties is planning a sports-led retail and leisure scheme which will provide a new £12m stadium for Grimsby Town Football Club.
The 36.4ha (90 acre) site for the scheme is at the junction of the A180 (T) and A1136. As well as a 20,000-seater stadium, proposals include 13,935 sq m (150,000 sq ft) of non-food retail, a 1,858 sq m (20,000 sq ft) garden centre, petrol station, hotel and restaurants.
Chiltern partner Graham Pickering, also a director of Gracechurch Retail Parks, said the commercial development will provide 40% of the cost of the stadium.
As a first stage to secure planning consent, Chiltern hopes North East Lincolnshire council will incorporate the scheme in the deposit draft local plan. The scheme will also include a 2,000-space car park, which will be used as a park & ride scheme serving Grimsby and nearby Cleethorpes.
Grimsby FC will sell Blundell Park, its existing ground, for residential development and plough the proceeds into the new stadium.
