Go-ahead given for 2m sq ft business park in Warwickshire

IM Properties has won permission for a 185,800 sq m (2m sq ft) business park at Birch Coppice Colliery in north Warwickshire.

The development site, one of the largest in the West Midlands, comprises some 137ha (339 acres) of agricultural and brownfield land, east of junction 10 of the M42 with access to the A5 trunk road. IM has planning permission for B1,B2 and B8 uses.

The Secretary of State for the Environment has decided not to call in the application, which left the way clear for North Warwickshire Borough Council to determine the application. Its members had already publicly backed it.

Mick Jones, commercial director of IM Properties, said: “The green light to transform this huge brownfield site, will in the medium term contribute to the local economy and benefit local people through inward investment and employment.”

Planning permission is conditional on IM carrying out infrastructure work, including a new traffic island on the A5 at the proposed park’s entrance. Additional work will be carried out on the junction of the A5 and the M42.

The developer is also commissioning a study into the viability of reconnecting the site to the national rail network.
