Carluccio’s Caffe, a new Italian restaurant chain, has unveiled ambitious plans to open up to 25 restaurants in London, expand into the regions and take the brand international.
Italian restaurateurs Antonio and Priscilla Carluccio have teamed up with My Kinda Town’s Peter Webber, Stephen Gee and Simon Kossoff for the venture. Kossoff will be the managing director with Priscilla Carluccio as his number two.
The first 280 sq m (3,000 sq ft) restaurant is on Market Place, off Oxford Circus and will open in November. Carluccio’s is also in talks to open eateries in Notting Hill, Knightsbridge and Kensington. All the restaurants will be around 280 sq m (3,000 sq ft).
A spokesman for the company said they plan to focus on major UK cities after London, starting with Edinbrugh, Glasgow and Manchester. Possible international targets for the future are the US, Japan and Australia.
Apax Partners Corporate Finance is funding the company for now, although franchising is a possibility in the future, the spokesman added.
