The Crown Estate is contributing £150,000 towards the Christmas lights in London’s West End this year.
It has put up the money to avoid the need for sponsorship. Westminster City Council has indicated it might refuse planning permission for the lights if they are heavily sponsored.
The Crown Estate controls a slice of Regent Street.
