Karen Jones has been appointed to run 1,100 managed pubs acquired by Punch Taverns from Allied Domecq.
She founded the Pelican Group with one of the Punch Taverns founders Roger Myers. The move ends rumours of a possible big sell-off of managed houses.
Bass will get 600-650 of the largest managed outlets under the terms of the offer. Punch will transfer some of the houses to tenancies. It will keep Allied bands such as Mr Q’s, Big Steak and Firkin. New concepts will also be developed.
