Public and private sector investors are poised to inject £250m into Birmingham’s jewellery quarter.
The newly-launched Jewellery Quarter Urban Village Partnership will oversee the regeneration of the 107ha (265 acre) site in Hockley. The partnership said it intends to create an “urban village” in the 250-year old quarter.
Partnership chairman Stephen Goldstein said: “It will demonstrate the very best of what can be achieved by integrating new housing with local shops, services and employment opoprtunities with existing industry and businesses” to create a “thriving community”.
Proposals include cultural, heritage and tourist attractions, residential, leisure and retail development. The brief for the site also includes hotels and some office development.
The partnership includes Advantage West Midlands, Birmingham council, Birmingham School of Jewellery and The Prince’s Foundation.
