Avis to set up European call centre at Salford Quays

Avis Europe has signed one of the largest deals of the year at Salford Quays, just outside Manchester.

The car hire company has taken 2,970 sq m (32,000 sq ft) at Peel Holdings’ Victoria Building with an option to take a further 929 sq m (10,000 sq ft). Avis took a 15-year lease at £155.54 per sq m (£14.45 per sq ft) which breaks back to £139.94 per sq m (£13 per sq ft) after incentives. There are breaks at years five and ten.

The company looked at a number of sites across Europe before settling on Manchester for its European call centre. FPDSavills acted for Avis, while Dunlop Heywood and Jones Lang LaSalle acted for Peel.

Meanwhile in Manchester city centre, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBoS) set a new rental high for secondhand refurbished space. The bank took 2,044 sq m (22,000 sq ft) at St George’s House on Peter Street on a 15-year lease at £156.08 per sq m (£14.50 per sq ft).

FPD Savills and Gooch Webster were letting agents for Threadneedle Property Fund Managers acting for landlord Starpatch Investments.

Weatherall Green & Smith acted for RBoS.
