Mango not defeated in bid for Oxford Street store

Spanish retailer Mango is believed to be in negotiations with Waterstone’s for an Oxford Street premises, after it lost the former Virgin Cosmetics store to rival Zara.

Waterstone’s originally planned to open an outlet on the corner of Oxford Street and Argyll Street to compete with the Borders store nearby. However, it has abandoned plans for the Oxford Street operation since it opened a flagship store on Piccadilly last autumn.

Mango is said to be one of two European retailers eyeing up the premises, according to industry sources. If it succeeds, it will be close to Zara’s new outlet.
