Environmentalists ‘should be relieved’ about Cambridgeshire housebuilding

Environmental protesters should be relieved that the government has rejected proposals for more housebuilding than that announced earlier this week for Cambridgeshire, says the Financial Times.

John Prescott, deputy prime minister, outlined five priorities for 80,000 new homes in Cambridgeshire by 2016, all of which are likely to be employed.

The article points out that Cambridge, the UK’s nearest rival to silicon valley, cannot afford to be complacent because of emerging high-technology rivals in the UK and in continental Europe.
