Westbury looks to innovative online

Westbury Homes lifted pretax profits by 21% to £53.6m for the year ending February 29 2000.

The Cheltenham-based housebuilder, which has pioneered off-site fabrication, also announced plans for a major new internet investment.

It plans to launch an e-commerce hub which will allow suppliers, designers, and the Westbury factory to share information.

It is also hoped that the hub will help co-ordinate site deliveries while reducing raw material stocks and work in progress.

Chief executive Martin Donohue said that the company was moving from being a traditional housebuilder into “a more innovative retailer of both new homes and home-related products and services”.

Westbury increased private house sales by 2% to 4,355 sales and the average selling price of a home was £104,700 – up 15% on a year earlier.
