Law firm Edge Ellison is vacating its London offices in Holborn following today’s announcement of a merger with Hammond Suddards. To be known as Hammond Suddards Edge, the new law firm will rank as the UK’s seventh largest with 185 partners and 900 lawyers .
Edge Ellison’s 160 London staff will move into Hammond’s City office at 7 Devonshire Square, EC2, in September following the merger. A spokesman for Edge Ellison said the merger of the two firms would create one of the three largest property law departments in the UK.
Edge will be vacating 1,161 sq m (12,500 sq ft) of offices at 16-18 Southampton Place, WC1, and is now seeking tenants for the space. It is also vacating offices occupied on a short-let basis elsewhere in Holborn. Hammonds has enough available existing office space to absorb the new influx of staff.
In the regions, Edge will be shutting its Leicester office and moving the 60 staff employed there to its Birmingham office. Hammond Suddards already has a strong regional presence in Leeds and Manchester.
The new firm will be known as Hammond Suddards Edge
