Branch closures set to follow £5bn bank takeover

More than 100 high street branches are likely to close as a result of Barclays £5.3bn takeover of Woolwich.

The closures, representing 5% of the combined network, will be mainly in the South East.

Woolwich chief executive John Stewart will become deputy chief executive of Barclays with responsibility for retail banking.
