Todmorden, which straddles the Lancashire -Yorkshire border, is one of six towns to take part in a pilot project to help market towns reassert their role as local service providers.
The Countryside Agency launches the £6m pilot with Yorkshire Forward today to attract jobs and businesses in a bid to boost market towns.
Todmordens revival strategy includes the creation of a “European-style” square around the market place, featuring café bars and live performing arts. Some vacant civic buildings will be given over to light industry, offices, galleries and housing.
