Jerry Schurder, head of rating at Gerald Eve, has been appointed chairman of the RICS’s Ratings and Local Taxation Panel. He replaces Charles Partridge of Lambert Smith Hampton, who has chaired the panel for the last six years.
Schurder said scrutinising next month’s Local Government Green Paper, which is expected to include top-up business rates, would head his list of priorities.
He also said there were “further opportunities to be grasped in simplifying and improving the business rates system”.
