Cofton Group pays £15m for Welsh urban village site

The Cofton Group is to transform a former quarry at Rhoose Point in the Vale of Glamorgan into a mixed-use urban village in one of the largest public/private sector projects of its kind in Wales.

Cofton has paid over £15m to Blue Circle Industries for the 97ha (240 acres) site which already has consent for 20.2ha (50 acres) of residential. Beazer Homes (Wales), Taywood Homes, Westbury Homes (Holdings) and David Wilson Homes will start building a total of 500 homes on-site in 2001.

The plans also include 2.8ha (7 acres) of land for employment use, 1.2ha (3 acres) for retail and leisure, a golf course, a new railway station linking Rhoose with mainline services between Cardiff and Bridgend, and 40.4ha (100 acres) for a coastal park and nature reserve.
