Whitecliff Properties and Copthorn Homes have been given the green light for the first phase of a £67m urban village in the Kent Thames-side region.
Planning consent has been granted by Dartford Borough Council for phase one of the Stone Castle residential development, to be built on a 2.2ha (5.4-acre) site of a former industrial quarry alongside Bluewater retail park in Dartford.
It will initially comprise 201 homes, of which 40 will be affordable. Properties will range from one and two-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom townhouses. A public park and childrens playground are to be constructed alongside the housing.
The masterplan for Stone Castle includes plans for a further 250 new homes on an 8.1ha (20-acre) site.
Chief executive of Whitecliff Properties, Robyn Pyle, said: “A former household rubbish tip will be greened by planting hundreds of new trees and shrubs, and buildings will be designed into their landscaping.”
The first homes should be brought to the market in summer 2001 with prices expected to start at around £90,000. Construction of phase one will start early next year.
