Jacobs Holdings hopes to unlock property profits by moving its Dart Line freight and ferry services from the south to the north side of the Thames.
It will move its base at Thames Europort, Dartford, to Shell Haven in Essex at a cost of about £16m.
It envisages recouping at least £20m from redeveloping its south Thames site, which is close to Bluewater. Jacobs will shortly develop its existing 20.24ha (50 acre) freehold south Thames site in a partnership with P&O. Potential exists to reclaim another 10.12ha-12.14ha (25-30 acres) on the river frontage.
