The Ministry of Defence is using crown immunity to flatten environmentally-sensitive land so it can sell an airfield for use by private executive jets at Farnborough, Hampshire.
The airfield is not thought to be safe enough without clearing surrounding woods.
It will use its immunity to avoid the need for planning permission.
