Railtrack takes control at Snow Hill station

Landowner Railtrack wants to find a joint venture partner for its redevelopment of the £150m Snow Hill station site in Birmingham by the beginning of next year.

Railtrack has brought forward long-awaited plans for the scheme by appointing a consultation team which is in the process of masterplanning the site. The team comprises architect Sidell Gibson, engineer Alan Baxter and quantity surveyor EC Harris. A planning application will be submitted in early 2001.

Plans include around 200 luxury apartments, a health & fitness centre, retail and in excess of 46,450 sq m (500,000 sq ft) of grade A office accommodation. Radical remodelling of the St Chads roundabout area will create a link with the neighbouring Jewellery Quarter and a transport interchange with a coach station and public spaces is also planned.

Joint agents for the scheme are Healey & Baker and King Sturge. Knight Frank has a consultancy role on potential residential sales.
