Marks & Spencer will test a new convenience store format in Twickenham, Middlesex, and Surbiton, Surrey, next May.
It will roll out 40-100 stores if successful.
The new 279 sq m (3,000 sq ft) outlets will compete with the likes of Tesco Metro and Sainsbury’s Local. Tesco is looking to treble the size of Metro to 150 stores.
